“The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller.” (Proverbs 11:24 MSG)
“A mark of blessing is what you’re giving, not what you’re keeping.” – John Wimber
“And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive’.” (Acts 20:35)
After new year people are dreaming, planning and setting goals all over the world. Many aim for it to be their best year yet, to make this year their year – whether that’s to make more money, get in shape, get the dream house, car, spouse, give up bad habits or get more displaced…. and I think they are all good but what about making our world bigger?
Instead of income, what about making impact, instead of working harder to leave your kids the big house, what about working on leaving wisdom in them, what about Kingdom goals, instead of how much you are making a month, how about how much you give a month? I really believe the more generous we become the more significant 2019 will be.
I remember my wife and I had a amazing opportunity to travel to America to work alongside a Christian TV ministry called MXTV in Nashville and Texas.
When we visited Texas we stayed across the street from our host, Tim Bisango’s late dad, Brother John Bisango who was a legend in the faith. When we met him I could truly sense the impact he made in Houston for Jesus. He grew a church from a few hundred people to 25,000 people, had best selling books, did crusades, was loved by everyone, schools were named after him, he was friends with Billy Graham, had three honoury doctorate degrees and just lived a truly remarkable life.
When I met him you could tell he was grateful for all of this but Jesus meant so much more to him than all that. Brother John went through some real tough times towards the end of his life before he went to be with Jesus. He lost his wife and then his whole house after Hurricane Harvey hit and he was battling with cancer but he would say, “I still have Jesus and that’s all that matters.”
During the small conversations I had with him during the time we were visiting I was truly impacted by one key thing that stood out about him and that was his generosity. In the four days we were with him he gave us so much including tickets to see our first baseball game. Here are some thoughts on the impact he had on me.
The most impacting leaders I know don’t say too many words but the words that they do speak say very much. My goal in 2019 is to listen more.
Looking back over my life, I have noticed that it is not as impressive what people have but rather how much people give.
If you want a BIG VISION for your life ask for the eyes of JESUS.
So this year let’s live to give and make life remarkable for the kingdom so we can impact it for Jesus and leave this world better than we found it.
- To preach the Gospel at a least 100 places this year
- To give to 100 people
- To tell 100 people about Jesus that don’t know Jesus
- To bring out 100 videos
What is yours?
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” (Matthew 6:33)
