God wants you to protect your marriage. It is a holy institution He created to reflect His love in the Earth and was designed by God Himself. Marriage empowers every husband and wife to engage with God in every facet of life and carry out His command to be fruitful and multiply. For Adam and Eve this meant everything that was within the borders of the garden of Eden and today we need to guard the borders of the garden of our marriage.
“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth’.” (Genesis 1:26)
God wants us to be victorious in our marriages, having dominion over every obstacle in our way. What are you allowing within the borders of your marriage?Take authority over the things that hold you back by following these three simple steps.
1. Watch and choose your words wisely
Your words have power and they can either build up or destroy the fabric of your home and marriage. A Christ-centered marriage is one that’s led by God’s Word and instruction. Together, as a couple, you are called to rule and to dominate every territory that was assigned to your family. Are you building each other up or are you tearing down the spiritual fabric of your home? It’s your choice to keep advancing with your calling or to be stagnant. Your words can either release freedom or enslave your marriage to the bondage of wilderness.
2. Choose to engage God’s Word
“ Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.” (Genesis 2:15)
Dress and keep your marriage with God’s Word. Keep your heart and home saturated with His Word. Set an environment of peace. Engage God within the walls of your marriage. It is your choice to either to dress your heart and home with His Word or be led by your emotions and misdirect the course and direction of your home. When you allow reckless words to come out of your mouth you taint and paralyze your family’s destiny. Allow God to penetrate your heart first before you recklessly speak. Dress and keep your heart with the Word of God and your marriage will flourish and produce God’s fruit.
3. Choose to pray together
How often do you intentionally pray together? Pray and war with and for each other. Take time to cover each other in prayer. Choose to be selfless and pray without ceasing. Pray through the storm. Pray before the storm hits your home. Pray to reset yourselves. Pray to recharge and refresh your marriage and your home.
A prayer for Husbands
Father God, in the Name of Jesus, I thank you for my wife. I thank you for everything that you have placed inside of her. I thank you for the gifts that are being birthed out. I thank you for her patience, her love and her passion for you. Father, thank you for every trial and test that we’ve successfully conquered together. I thank you for the faith to fight together as we engage You in every part of our lives. Lord, we trust you with our whole hearts. Father, we seek you daily and will never turn away from you. She is your treasure and you have given your daughter to me as a crown. I thank you for the opportunity to submit to you and to lead her heart as you instruct. Lord, I repent for every mishandling and I surrender to you. Father, I thank you for teaching me and leading me on how to lead the home that you have entrusted to me. Father, I surrender to you completely and forever. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
