Four Canadian Teen boys were hailed as heroes after they followed a girl with her ‘dad’ into an underground parking lot and rescued her.
“She just wanted to be out of there”
Arnaud Nimenya, Carsyn Wright, James Hielema and Starlyn Rives-Perez were all skateboarding in a mall’s underground parking lot when it all happened. They noticed a 15-year-old girl with a man who claimed to be her father. The teens noticed that she appeared to be intoxicated and the man was pulling her by force and they were disturbed by his actions.
“She was screaming and yelling. She just wanted to be out of there. And she was all scuffed up and dirty,” Carsyn recalled.
They sensed that something was not right so they approached the man with more questions. However, the boys left the parking lot after the man insisted that he was her father and the girl was quiet.
“You don’t want to really think of the worst in somebody like that. You don’t want that situation to be real, so you just brush it off and hope for the best,” Carsyn said.
But their gut was telling them that something was off in the situation so they went back into the garage. They then discovered that the man was sexually assaulting the girl so they did what they had to do to save her.
“You walk in, and you see something like that, and you freeze. You don’t know what to do,” Arnaud said.
As soon as he saw them, the man tried to run away but these brave teens wouldn’t let him escape. While one of them stayed with the victim, the other three chased him down. The man tried to fight them with one of the boys’ skateboards until the police came and arrested him.
Hailed as heroes
Because of these men’s bravery, they were all hailed as heroes. The local police invited them over to award them for their exceptional act of bravery.
“You can’t just leave a girl and she was a young girl,” Carsyn said when asked why they turned back. “She needed help and we needed to be there for her. I hope anybody else who’s in that situation would come to her help because it’s just the humane thing to do.”
