“ALL things work together for good, to those who love God…” (Romans 8:28)
We throw this verse around as if it is on a time table, so when the GOOD doesn’t show up when we think it should, or expect it to, we conclude that, no, all things do NOT work together for our good.
First of all, loving and knowing God is the first step. Why? Because without HIM how can anything bad be turned to good? Where would the hope be? Okay, so you know and love God – but you still don’t yet see how all things in your life are actually working for good.
Wait. There IS a little more to that verse. “…to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Hmmm. This is deep. Hold on.
So, if I know and love God (and you have to KNOW someone to LOVE them. Just sayin..), AND I am called to His purpose, THEN I can rest assured that ALL things WILL work together for good. That is what it says and God does not lie. “God is not a man that He should lie, or a son of man that He should change His mind. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken and will He not fulfill it? (Numbers 23:19)
SO here is a key. You won’t love it – But, God is not on OUR time table. (sigh) So, you have to wait it out. It may be days, or weeks, or in my case – YEARS. I have waited years for some things to work together for good. And for some things, I am still waiting.
In the wait, so much of our character is developed. So much of our relationship with God is cemented and locked in place. So much of God’s mysteries and wonders are triggered to occur as we wait and as we trust His heart for us.
You must understand the layers of life – that many things need peeled back, and that many times there is a domino effect: one thing to make something else happen to make something else happen and repeat times a hundred. (whew!)
People, this is a journey! And it is hard!
BUT it is worth the WAIT. Wait for that 500th piece to finish the 500 piece puzzle. NEVER stop waiting – never stop believing. The purpose WILL be unveiled in His perfect time, and for your benefit.
“ALL things work together for good to those who love God, and are the called according to His purpose .” (Romans 8:28)
