“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10)
Growing up I was a little girl who loved to sing. My passionate dream was that one day I would be on Broadway. Even though I never made it to Broadway, I still had the opportunity to do various theater productions. That set the premise for where I am today – in pursuit of a career in film and TV. Each day I passionately strive to achieve my goal to become a show-runner, or producer with a studio or network. However, there is a difference between the gift that God has given me and the passion that I pursue.
When God gave me my gift of singing, it was freely given to me. The gift God gave me came to me naturally, it is easy for me to do, I didn’t have to go to school for it, and every time I use my gift it helps someone else.
My passion on the other hand, is something I went to school for, I work at it 24/7, and at times I don’t even know if I will ever fulfill it. Because, my passion was something that I acquired, I ended up finding out about it or felt it was something I wanted to do.
The gift that God gives us is intended to fulfill the purpose that God has for our lives. When God created us He knew exactly which gift He was putting into our spirit and soul.
I recently had an encounter with God where He told me that all I had to do was utilize the gift He has given me. I do not have to stress about the pursuit of my passion. As long as I continue to do what He requires of me when using my gift, everything else I may desire will come to pass in His perfect time.
James 1:17 says,“Every good and perfect gift is from above coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”
Are you utilizing the gift God gave you?
Many people know the gift that God has given them but they don’t utilize it. Others are still trying to figure out what their gift really is. In either case, let us pray that you find the gift that God has given you.
Heavenly Father, in the precious name of Jesus Christ, and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we pray that you reveal to us the gift that you birthed in us when you created us and that we would utilize it to help ourselves and serve others. Amen
