Are you holding yourself back? I felt Holy Spirit ask me this question recently, and it brought me to a series of thoughts that I wanted to share with you today. You know, when we enter into a new season of life, the things that worked before don’t always work in this time. I recently had my first baby and I realized my time with God is not going to look the same anymore, but it doesn’t make it any less valuable.
Before I was used to, you know, waking up, having a time of journaling, having a time of listening to the word or reading the word and really sitting with God. And now, as other parents know, as soon as I’m awake, my child needs me and I need to cook food and feed my baby. And there’s so many things to do. And Holy Spirit asked me, “Are you holding yourself back?” And I said, “God, what does that mean? What do you mean?” And He said, “Your time with me doesn’t have to look like it did before to mean something.” And so I’m learning that instead of sitting with the Bible and reading it, I can make breakfast and listen to the audio Bible.
And I’m learning that if I’m in the car and my baby’s crying, I can just turn on worship music and decide to pray to God and let the peace of God fill our car. And I want to ask you the same question. Are you restricting your time with God, because you think it should look a certain way? The truth is that Jesus wants to spend time with you, and He’s always available to you. If you’re in the grocery store, if you’re driving to work, if you’re walking down the hallway for a bathroom break in your busy day, you have an opportunity to just say, “Holy Spirit, I love you. God, fill me up, fill me up to love the people around me.”
So I just pray for you right now. And I pray that as you go about your busy life, that the expectations you put on yourself for your time with God are just removed, and you feel the freedom to just connect with Jesus.
