Goliath believed he was greater than the armies of Israel which he defiled with his words but little did he know that when you are not on the Lord’s side, then you are one of those that is in the world. He cursed David by his gods (1 Samuel 17:43) believing his gods are greater than the God of Israel, which gave him the audacity and the effrontery to come out and terrorized the whole of Israel.
The Bible says the staff of the Goliath’s spear was like a weaver’s beam, and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron, and one bearing a shield went before him (1Samuel 17:7). Verses 8 to 11 further says, “And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me. If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us. And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together. When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.”
Even King Saul and all the children of Israel were afraid of the giant because of his look, boldness, and records. Their focus altogether was on how big the enemy was just because of fear. 1 John 4:18 says, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” Fear is one the greatest weapon of the enemy the devil which was why God made it so clear to us that He has not given us the spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7). Fear is from the spirit of bondage and it has torment (Romans 8:15), to torment people, put them in bondage and make them forget who they are and what God has done for them and what He is capable to do at all times. King Saul and all of Israel were tormented by fear when they saw how big Goliath looks, his boldness, and the threat of his words, so they forgot who their God is, and what He can do even at the moment.
The teenage David believed strongly in God and in His word, one of which says, “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” (Mark 11:23). David said to the giant, “Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.” (1 Samuel 17:45-46). David refused to see what the giant looks like and was not in fear rather demonstrated the Scripture with his mouth and complimented his action, and the result is the giant was defeated.
The question for you, is what is that giant that is confronting you right now, is it sickness? Greater is He that is in you and you have overcome the enemy even before the enemy comes against you (see 1 John 4:4).
Learn from David, believe like David, be bold like David, act like David, and love God like David and even better, and you shall see every giant confronting defeated, in the name of Jesus.
