Our Bible scripture for today is from Matthew 5:3-11 which contains the blessings from God known as the Beatitudes. We chose this scripture for today as it focuses so clearly on God’s blessing over our lives.
V. 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.”
We are blessed when we find ourselves going low in the presence of God as this scripture for today tells us. We go low, in humility, and honesty with our need and it’s there that we experience the culture of the Kingdom where God dwells. The place where, in all of His majesty, God meets our every need.
V. 4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
Facing the wall of adversity once again brings us to the cusp of need. While in ourselves we do not have the ability to meet our own needs, God fully intends to meet us. Mourning is an invitation to curl up to your Papa and absorb His love once again.
V. 5 “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
When we do not take or force the hand of the world to go in our own way, we leave God the room to open doors. He is God of all, so why not accept our childhood in Him and let Him bless us with success instead of forcing our way through life!

Scripture For Today
V. 6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”
The physical reality is a reflection of the spiritual reality. Our physical hunger points to a spiritual hunger where the physical has no capability to fill. Yet this scripture for today points to the thing that we are truly hungry for in this life – righteousness! And guess what. Just like every other need in life, God intends to satisfy our hunger.
V. 7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.”
Matthew 7:2 – “For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” – A mystery to be sure. But the way we choose to interact with others has eternal value and meaning. You get to decide what kind of world you want to create around you, but just know that every aspect of your life matters.
V. 8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
My thought is this: impurity is like a form of darkness. When our thoughts, actions, and ideas are impure, we are inviting darkness to cover our eyes. Be mindful of what is beating in your chest and ask the Lord to bring to light anything that clouds your purity of heart as you study our scripture for today.
V. 9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”
Creating peace in the midst of unrest really makes you look like your Daddy. He is the one who, for generations and countless centuries, has provided the answers. Strategies of peace and steadfastness to make His people victorious. – Be like your Daddy and people will soon know you for who He is.
V. 10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.”
Notice the same phrasing as verse 3 – “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.” – When we are in a low place, we have a God who gives us everything. Where we see scarcity around us, God sees everything at our fingertips. When we see persecution, God sees the truth of our lives.
V. 11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on My account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in Heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
In this scripture for today, we see there is a reward at the end of it all. We don’t live this life and fight the way we do just to say that we can. There is something very real and very much worth our living the way we do. Hold on to the promises! Heaven waits to hand us our reward at the end of this.
Stay in the tenderness of the Lord and the peace of His constant comfort and you will find everything you need.
