Christian actress Candace Cameron Bure explained the difference between happiness and joy and urged everyone to chase joy, not happiness.

During an interview with her brother Kirk Cameron on his TBN series “Takeaways,” Candace revealed that she’s not always happy inside. However, she is always filled with joy. She then explained the difference between the two.
“I think it’s good to define the difference between joy and happiness,” she said. “Joy is a goodness that comes from inside you that sustains you when your circumstances around you are tough, are bad – when they are unhappy circumstances. Happiness is conditionally based. Happiness means that the external things around you are going well. And that can change at any moment.”

Joy and happiness
She then continued to explain that there may be days that she doesn’t feel happy because the things around her are not going well, but there’s still joy inside her. The outspoken Christian then continued to explain that joy only comes from God and not our circumstances.
“Joy is never dependent upon my circumstances. And the joy that I have as a believer and a Christian comes from God. It’s knowing that I am at peace with Him, I’m justified before Him, He walks with me, and His Spirit is upon me. It’s knowing my future that’s in heaven. It’s having an eternal perspective. That’s where I find my joy when my circumstances are difficult.”
Joy comes from God
And for anyone to attain that joy, we need to always spend time with God and meditate on His word.
“That’s why it’s so important that we spend time in God’s Word every day, to renew our minds, renew our spirits, to encourage us to keep reminding ourselves of God’s truth, and not allow the world to tell us what it thinks is true,” she said. “Because the world is ever-changing. And God never changes.”
