After the Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte declared the fourth week of March as a National Week of Prayer, Christians over all the country united to pray and fast against the global pandemic COVID-19.
Apparently, the President released a proclamation on March 21 to the country urging Filipinos of all faith to pray as the nation faces the threat of COVID-19.
The proclamation No. 934 by the President of the Philippines stated that “the fourth week of March 2020 as a National Week of Prayer.”
Further, the statement is encouraging “Filipinos of all faiths, religious traditions, and backgrounds to unite” their hearts in prayer as the nation faces COVID-19 threat. And to fix their eyes “on the Almighty in this time of affliction.”
The Prayer Points
President Duterte acknowledges the need of prayer in defeating the invisible enemy that is causing the world such turmoil. And shares the prayer points in the statement:
“I ask everyone to pray for the recovery of those who are now suffering from COVID-19,” he said. For comfort to those who lost loved ones, and for the protection of all. Especially the most vulnerable sectors of society. Pray also for strength and endurance for our outstanding medical professionals and health workers on the frontlines. Your military and law enforcement officers, the government officials and personnel dealing with the present threat. And all Filipinos who are working tirelessly to protect our communities, sacrificing their lives in the service of the country.”
Then he concluded, “Through prayer, let us, as one nation, find the strength to defeat this invisible enemy. With the aid and blessing of God.”
Christians Unite In Prayer And Fasting
As a result, Christians regardless of denomination and sect united in prayer and fasting. By spreading the movement online (since most cities are under quarantine), churches joined in the cause.
Faithbook wrote, “The majority of the Christians are calling the attention of the Filipinos to on March 29, 2020, to Join in the major event which is “National Day of Prayer and Fasting” to fight the Plague COVID-19 Pandemic and to Resist the evil works in our Generation.”
The nation is resorting to prayer more than anything. But indeed, this is the best solution. For God said in His Word, “if my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
