Maybe you’re one of those people who’ve received advice from others, telling you to follow your heart and do what your instincts and feelings tell you to do. But the Bible is so clear when it says: “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” (Proverbs 4:23)
“Follow your heart” is a dangerous worldly doctrine that is so rampant right now. But I’m here to tell you this, DON’T FOLLOW YOUR HEART. Instead, follow the One who made your heart.
The moment you receive Jesus in your life as your Lord and Savior, you should know that it is no longer you who live, but Christ who lives within you. With that, everything you do should be in accordance to His Will and Word. And that includes surrendering everything to Him.
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41)
Jesus became a man and He knows that if we are not careful and wise enough, it is possible that our flesh can overrule the desires of our spirit. That’s why He told His disciples to watch and pray fervently to resist temptation. Without the guidance of God, we can’t withstand the strong urges of the flesh.
Judah Smith is a pastor in City Church in Seattle, Washington. He emphasizes some of the dangers in following your heart and the importance of doing things in accordance to the Word of God.
Pursue and wait for that time when your heart’s desires and His are one. The truth is, you can rule over your emotions, you can rule over heart because the Spirit of the Lord made you able.
