Dozens of inmates in Indiana got baptized right inside the prison walls and publicly professed their newfound faith in Jesus Christ.
Dozens of Inmates
An Indiana sheriff’s department is celebrating the transformation of around 40 inmates’ lives. Right before the year 2022 ended, these men and women surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ. The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office posted images of their baptism on their Facebook page.
“What a great way to celebrate Christmas and a New Year! DCDC Chaplain Dave Burnett along with REC members baptized nearly 40 men and women after a personal, public profession of Jesus Christ in their lives,” they wrote in their Facebook post.
It was not the first time inmates at the Decatur County Detention Center gave their lives to Christ and got baptized. They have been doing this since 2018 has seen over 300 people transformed by the power of Jesus Christ.
“Over the past four years, nearly 300 men and women have given their life to Jesus Christ while incarcerated at the Decatur County Detention Center. All glory to GOD!”
Daily News reported that there were actually 59 inmates who got baptized on December 29. Each one of them “committed to changing their hearts.” Sheriff Dave Durrant believes that changing the heart of these individuals would help them not commit the crimes they have done before. By changing their hearts, Jesus is also changing their lives.
“If you can change the heart during that journey, everything will follow suit,” Dave said in an interview in 2019. “Whether it be alcohol or drugs or poverty that are creating the cycle, we only have to change their hearts to stop the process.”
