Encouragement is a vital key to achieve lasting success and it’s a tool God gives us to use.

What is encouragement?

The way I see this word looks a little something like this… en ‘courage’ ment.

It’s the heart posture of giving someone courage, when they can’t find it for themselves.

How do I get it when I’m scared?

Picture the scene in Joshua 1.

Moses, who led the Israelites for decades, is dead. Now God says to Joshua “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites…”

They had been in the desert for 40 years and now they are facing crossing the Jordan River and taking possession of the promised land.

Joshua must have been pretty scared because then God says to him, “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go…”  

I can do all things because of God’s strength

God gives Joshua the key and a promise that helps him to be courageous. ” Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful…”

He literally speaks courage into Joshua by saying, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Go and be courageous today – because God enables you to be.
