This generation is drinking from filthy waters to quench their thirst for God.

Growing in prayer

In an episode of Growing in Prayer, James Aladiran says that people from this generation are turning to ungodly things to satisfy their hunger and thirst for God. He started his message by sharing an incident with his 2-year-old son. While his son was playing around the house, he suddenly became silent.

Worried that something might have happened, James rushed to look for his son. He then found his son in their bathroom with his head inside the toilet. James was frantically screaming and his wife rushed to the scene. The first comment she said as she saw her son is, “Oh he’s thirsty.”

Thirst

Just like how an innocent little boy drank from the toilet to quench his thirst, this generation is also drinking from filthy waters to quench their thirst.

“Every human being has a desire that God has placed in their heart for Him but oftentimes they’re trying to fill up that desire with all kinds of things apart from God. However, it’s still there. So, this generation is thirsty but we’re drinking from the toilet,” James said.

That thirst that we have can only be satisfied by God, nothing else in this world can. When you try to satisfy your thirst with filthy waters, you become so full. And that would lessen your appetite for God.

“We’re saying we want more of God, we’re praying we want more of God, but the way we live our lives does not show that we want more of God. Because our life is so full of all the other distractions of the world. If we want more of God, we actually need to give Him more of us.”

Filthy Waters

Those filthy waters are the ungodly things this world is offering to us to satisfy us. May it be money, fame, sex, and all other things that can distract us from pursuing God. If we keep on turning to those things to quench our thirst, we can’t fully surrender ourselves to Him.

“To know God and to grow in prayer, you actually need to create space for God.”

If you want God to quench your thirst for Him, crate more space for Him and stop turning to the wrong places to find satisfaction. Instead, turn to God because He’s the only one that can satisfy our soul.
