One of the biggest deceptions humanity deals with on a day to day basis is the orchestrated evil thought that THIS life is all there is. Yes, evil. When we don’t remember that this life is but a vapor and tomorrow is never promised, then the cares of this life will always threaten to destroy us. If you have that mindset, you don’t think ahead, plan ahead or live life with careful caution and wisdom.
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12)
I was driving down the road today thinking of some of my own anxieties, failures, and worries, wondering how some situations could turn out, and feeling rather suffocated by the enormity of it all. This song “Live On Forever” came on K-Love Radio, a song by a group of amazing young men who are sold out to God and sing for His glory. I asked them if I could link their song to this blog, and they said yes! (Huge shout out of thanks and blessing to them!) This song was MY reminder today that there is so much MORE than just this earthly life.
More? Like what? Well, eternity! Should we be concerned with the afterlife? Yes, absolutely! Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, “Yet God has made everything beautiful in its own time. He has set (planted) eternity in our hearts.” Whoa. Eternity has its roots inside of humanity. Think about that. We are connected to forever. (Pretty deep, isn’t it?)
Maybe our always longing for a place to belong, always searching to find our way home is in all actuality that eternal pull from within to our eternal resting place. Maybe you could think of it as a tracking device. How awesome to realize all of humanity has eternity planted in their hearts; all of us have the same chance to live on- to live forever – to live in heaven with Jesus.
When you understand or fully have an AHA! moment that there is MORE to life than just your 70 (more or less) years on planet life, it will revolutionize how you view this life on your day to day basis.
“Dark days are gonna go away, they won’t have the final say. These bones were always gonna fade cause we were made for another place. The moment of our final breath, when all our fears are put to rest, every tear will disappear – heaven is real!” (The Afters / “Live On Forever”)
By the time I got back home I had left my anxieties, failures, and worries somewhere back on the side of the road – replaced with the joy of knowing hard times do NOT last forever and there is ALWAYS so much more to look forward to.
Having eternity in your heart, and recognizing it as being there is a great gift you can give to yourself.
“And THIS is the testimony (the great news): God has given eternal life, and this life is in His Son.” (1 John 5:11) Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life – and offers all of us the gift of heaven (through His gift of salvation) where we will live on forever in heaven.
“So we do not lose heart (we don’t get consumed by anxiety or fear). Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day (eternity in our hearts). For this light affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond ALL comparison..” (2 Corinthians 4:16-17) This really should cause our hearts to burst with supernatural joy as we finally understand we are eternal beings!
I want to live out the rest of my life with eternity shining brightly before me, and all my anxieties, failures and worries fading away in the rear view mirror. I want to press on with great intention, knowing what I do NOW counts for all eternity. As the song says, “We’re gonna live on forever, forever. We are not where we belong. We have a hope we’re gonna live on forever.”
