The relationship between forgiveness and empathy is explained.
Forgiveness
In an episode of The Mum Show, Emma Browne, Claire Hooper, and Marina Magdalena explain the relationship between forgiveness and empathy. True forgiveness comes from the heart and it has a lot to do with our empathy. We can’t truly release forgiveness if we haven’t yet understood the other person’s feelings and point of view.
“I don’t believe you can have forgiveness without being able to somehow make sense of why somebody has hurt you or why somebody has behaved in the way they have towards you. Because otherwise, it just becomes meaningless,” Emma said.

Empathy
As mothers, we should teach our children the importance of empathy. Even at a young age, one can already experience empathy. It’s actually important for one’s healing.
“There is room for our children who have been hurt by bullies or been victims of bullying to be able to make sense of it. And actually have forgiveness and be able to use that tool of forgiveness to heal themselves and to move on from it. But I think it absolutely has its roots in empathy,” she added.
Empathy is the root where forgiveness and healing came from. Though it’s very hard to do, God has given us a heart that can empathize with others. It’s a process that we all need to learn if we want to release forgiveness and obtain healing.
“Empathy is about being in feeling with each other, so it’s shared feeling, it’s shared emotion. It’s being able to feel what someone else feels and perhaps understand why. And that’s hard to do, it’s a kind of a really higher order in terms of our brain, it’s kind of real high order stuff and it takes a lot of self-reflection and self-awareness to be able to do that.”
