Francis Chan implores Christian parents to step up and “take advantage” of the time given by the pandemic to nurture the faith and spirituality of their children.
In a Q&A session, Francis explained how Christians have been depending on churches to teach their children with regard to faith. This proved true when parents were left wondering their next steps when lockdown started and Sunday school stopped.
“I think about parents. I hear in a lot of churches they’ve got to meet together again because of our kids. And I’m going, ‘Man, God should wake you up right there. Parents are supposed to be teaching their kids,” Francis said.
He challenged parents, especially dads, to take up the lead for his family. “It’s a great opportunity for you, dads, to step up and believe the Spirit of the living God is inside of your body and you can lead that family. And if they’re not equipped, then figure it out and man up. Parents, you’re supposed to lead your kids.”
However, Francis believes that the church is also partly responsible for the way parents act. He said the church had “weakened gifted godly people because we do everything for them.”
Take advantage of the time
When the pandemic started and churches were forced to close, parents struggled to keep up. Instead of waiting for churches to re-open so that kids can go back to Sunday School, parents should fill the gap.
“I say ‘No’. Take advantage of this time,” Francis exhorted.
Similarly, Francis told the Church that they should embrace this moment and see this as an opportunity to grow and reflect. And to prepare for future challenges ahead.
He said, “I really believe this is of God. This is a time where we realized we were not ready for this. So if we get another little break, let’s do everything we can to equip and prepare people for times like this because I really don’t believe this is the end of it.”
