Front-line doctors got married during this COVID-19 battle then immediately returned to work to save more lives immediately following their wedding day.
Dianne Ruedas and John Paolo Bueno are both doctors serving their community in the battle against coronavirus. The lovely couple was planning to get married on May 17. However, the COVID-19 outbreak hit the Philippines, leaving them with no choice but to postpone their wedding day.
“We were set to get married in Manila Cathedral on May 17 with a reception party in Manila Hotel afterward. Invitations were already sent out. Everything was already planned and polished, but due to the pandemic, we had no choice but to postpone,” Dianne said.
Instead of waiting for this pandemic to end, the couple decided to have a simple wedding on April 30. They emphasized that what they needed the most during their wedding day is not an extravagant celebration but God’s blessing. They had two of their colleagues present as witnesses and celebrate their new life as a married couple.
“I knew in my heart that he was the one and we realized that we don’t need an extravagant wedding to celebrate our love. We just needed God’s blessing and grace especially now in these trying times,” she said.
Right after their wedding, instead of going on a honeymoon, they returned to the hospital to save more lives.
“We are looking forward to better days. As front-liners of this war against Covid-19, there’s nothing more that we want but for everything to end and everything to get back to normal,” she added.
Faith, hope and love
John Paulo also posted the photo in front of the church where they were married. In his post, he emphasized that faith, hope, and love are what they needed as a newlywed couple during this trying time.
“We hope to put into practice having faith in each other,” John Paolo said. “Hope for better days to come and always love one another as we promised in front of our Lord.”
