“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
This scripture instructs us to give all our worries and cares to God and it is important to follow His instructions because we will find life as we obey (Nehemiah 9:29). This, honestly, is not easy but is work in progress with the help of the Holy Spirit guiding and leading us into all truth (John 14:17).
I would pray, “Father I give you all my problems and cares (then I would say each problem one by one) in Jesus’ name” and no sooner after praying I would start thinking about the problems and cares again. Then I’d start worrying that if I didn’t let go of these problems they wouldn’t get solved, that I’d have pride and God wouldn’t be able to work on them and then I would be stuck with them.
Then I decided that this needed to stop, that I needed to be free from these problems and cares. I needed to get off of this rollercoaster because it was starting to feel like the problems and cares were dominating my mind. This rollercoaster is the struggle between the flesh (carnal) and the Spirit. This is the battle I face in my mind daily, but I am determined through Christ to not lose for I am born a winner and victory belongs to Jesus.
I needed to be free
So what did I do?
First, I decided to seek God’s help, reading, studying and meditating on the Word more often than usual, day and night, I started listening to messages from anointed teachers about casting my cares on God, living in peace and not being moved by my feelings but standing on what I believe. I also bought a book that talks about letting go of worry and stress.
Second, I had to make a plan to give my worries and cares to God and to stick to the plan. I then asserted myself by aligning myself with the Word and holding onto who God says I am in Christ.
I kept affirming His word, that I am a new person in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), I am the lender and not the borrower (Deuteronomy 28:12), I am the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21), I am seated in heavenly places because I am united with Christ (Ephesians 2:6), I am above all principalities and powers for they are defeated, disabled, disarmed, paralysed and cancelled at the cross (Colossians 2:13-15), He will never leave me or forsake me (Joshua 1:5) and greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world (1 John4:4) and I live in His Presence.
God is our Father and He has adopted us into His family through Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:5). I had to learn more about God, our Father and fight the fight again to remain at rest in His Presence. There is always something seeking my attention elsewhere, trying to distract me from staying focused on Jesus.
He is our Creator
I have to and I need to fill up on the absolute truths of God for God is not a man, so He does not lie. He is not human, so He does not change His mind. Has He ever spoken and failed to act? Has He ever promised and not carried it through? (Numbers 23:19)
Let us explore this scripture a little more.
God is above us, He is our Creator and He is Spirit, we are made of flesh and we have an expiration date to our time on earth, God does not. He is sovereign and supreme. The very nature of God is He cannot lie. He is not a human being, He is the unchanging God, He is not a man, He is immortal and He always fulfills His promises and it is the same with His Word. When He sends it out, it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to and it will prosper everywhere I send it (Isaiah 55:11).
Thirdly, I heard the still small voice whisper, ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts (Zechariah 4:6). In order to fulfill what I want to do, I must surrender to the Holy Spirit’s leading, humble myself and watch Him work and then I will succeed for He cares.
“I will be your God throughout your lifetime—until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.” (Isaiah 46:4).
God cares – He is our provider
God cares so much about us that all of these things will be done throughout our lifetime. He will sustain and provide for us. Do you remember the children of Israel? In God’s great mercy He did not abandon, turn His back or leave them in the wilderness.
The pillar of cloud still led them forward by day, and the pillar of fire showed them the way through the night. He sent His Spirit to instruct them, and He did not stop giving them manna from Heaven or water for their thirst.
God sustained them for 40 years in the wilderness and they lacked nothing. Their clothes did not wear out, and their feet did not swell! (Nehemiah 9:19-21 paraphrased). We are His children and He will do the same for us and we have His mercy. (1 Peter 2:10).
God cares about and loves us so much that He has done countless amazing things for us. Just to name a few:
- “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16).
- He knows the number of the very hairs on our heads (paraphrased Matthew 10:30).
- God created us in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26).
- He delights in every detail of our lives (Psalms 37:23).
- The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him (2 Chronicles 16:9).
- He knows everything about us (Psalms 139).
- “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5).
For everyone who believes, He cares and He will sustain us every day. Believe, be inspired, be transformed and be like Christ as we trust in God’s absolute truth, Jesus.
