God is good. There is no darkness within Him. Evil cannot exist where there is only goodness. Think about that for minute. In order for Him to be good, He can’t be bad…at all, in any way.
We must come into the revelation of who God is. His nature cannot be defined by the lens of our experience. It must be defined by the truth found in the Word of God.
Let’s dig into the Word to discover who He really is.
1 John 1:5-10
5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.
8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His word is not in us.
Reflect: God Is Good
Take some time to dig into this scripture ever deeper by reflecting on the questions below. You can journal your thoughts and prayers about them too.
- Do I believe God is good? Why or why not?
- Do I believe He is good to me? Why or why not?
- What experiences have tainted my view of Him?
- Are they a true reflection of His nature or just my experience?
- What can you do to get to know the nature of God better?
- What are some additional scriptures that define the nature of God?
Father, help me to see You for who You truly are. Heal my heart from any wounds that taint My view or interactions with You. I want to know You more, amen.
