“What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way, your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.” Matthew 18:12-14
Jesus is our Great Shepherd. He cares for us just like the shepherd in the parable above. He looks for us in our wandering and carefully guides us back to the right path.
The story also pictures the great love Jesus has for us. He is unwilling, for even one of us would stray away from Him. He would leave the ninety-nine to care for the one.
It does not mean He neglects the others (because they are already well taken care of in their safe place). He showed that His love is for everyone.
Moreover, He modeled how love is not overlooking the “one.” Instead, stopping for the one.
And today, God is telling you that you are the one. You are the one He cares about and would relentlessly chase after until you give all your heart to Him. So, won’t you look at Him, too? Shalom!
