“Above all else, guard your heart with all diligence, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23
Today, God wants you to know the value of your heart, the reason why King Solomon has instructed us to guard it with all diligence.
The heart is the core of a human being. It lies the dreams, desires and will of a person. Most importantly, your heart connects you to God and others. It is the magnet of God’s presence.
When King Solomon said, “Above all else,” he means that there are other things that we sometimes put our focus on aside from guarding our hearts. The statement denotes a sense of urgency that we should regularly check.
Because our heart is the “wellspring of life”. Our thoughts, behavior, action and attitude are the overflow of it. “Out of the fullness of the heart, the mouth speaks,” Luke 6:45 says.
Hence, we should be intentional on what we expose ourselves and what we feed with our hearts. If our hearts are unhealthy, it will affect the way we do life and the way we relate with others.
Lastly, our hearts are the targets of the enemy. Because he knows that when our hearts are full of God’s love, we cannot help but overflow to others, causing them to run back to the Father’s arms.
May we always take time to expose our hearts to the One who knows us best.
