“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
We usually read the first verse alone, not to worry and pray it to God. But, without reading the following verses, we miss out on the promise and result if we don’t worry and thank God instead.
So, what happens when we pray amidst our worries and concerns? What develops if we thank God and surrender to Him our requests?
Paul revealed that “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” When we choose to trust God and present to Him our concerns, God’s peace will envelop our hearts and minds. It says that it will guard it. Guard it against what? Against negative thoughts and emotions, anxiety, doubts, troubled thoughts. A beautiful exchange happens when we surrender to God.
So, today, when you find yourself worrying, pray and thank God instead. And embrace the peace of God that comes after trusting Him. Shalom.
