“You rejoice in this, even though now for a short time, if necessary, you suffer grief in various trials so that the proven character of your faith – more valuable than gold which, though perishable, is refined by fire – may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:6-7
Contrary to popular Christian belief, life is not pain-free when we follow Jesus. In fact, the verse above shows Peter acknowledging suffering and pain.
At the same time, he believes and urges that God will use our grievances for our good. It will increase and refine our faith.
Just like how gold is refined by fire, burning away all the dross and impurities – pain and adversities help refine our faith. And all for a greater purpose, for the praise and glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
