The Gospel music hall of famer Bishop Rance Allen died at the age of 71 on October 31, remembered and honored by his fans and Christian artists for being a great man of faith.

Rance Allen founded the Rance Allen Group with his brothers Tom and Steve in 1969. As the lead vocalist, Allen was admired for his vocal range. The group became well-known for their fusion of rock, soul, and R&B to traditional black Gospel music.

As a five-time Grammy nominee, they have performed with popular gospel artists including Andrae Crouch, Marvin Winans, Bebe, and Cece Winans, and Kirk Franklin. In 2015, they even had a chance to perform in the White House for President Barack Obama to celebrate the history of Gospel music.

The artist great known for his gospel hit “Something About The Name Of Jesus” died on October 31 at the age of 71. He died while recovering from a medical procedure. Bishop Robert G. Rudolph Jr. announced the death of Bishop Allen in a statement released on Saturday.

“God, who is omnipotent and omniscient, has summoned His Servant, Bishop Rance Lee Allen, to eternal rest,” read the statement. “His gift transcended the boundaries of musical genre as he remained a sought after personality called to perform on global venues.”

Popular Christian artists expressed their thoughts on Bishop Rance’s death. These artists are remembering the legacy he has left on the Gospel music industry.

“We grew up having a blast listening and doing routines to his music, ‘There’s Gonna Be a Showdown’. He will always be remembered and loved! Your talent and kindness blessed my life and countless lives all over the world. Rest In Peace Rance, Allen,” Cece Winans tweeted.

“What a HUGE loss to the gospel world,” Kristian Brown also tweeted. “Bishop Rance Allen is one of the greatest voices on the planet. The Grammy award-winning gospel artist could have lived anywhere but called TOLEDO home! Pray for his family.”
