Joyce’s dynamic teaching ministry continues to impact lives around the world as she brings the Word of God alive in a humorous and practical manner. If you’ve attended one of her conferences, you’ll know that from the moment the service begins, Joyce is there on the platform, using every opportunity to teach.
Throughout praise and worship, the announcements and offering she brings forth nuggets of truth, and that’s before she even gets started on her message! Here are her answers to some key questions she is often asked at conferences.

Joyce have you and your husband, Dave ever thought of running for President?
No that’s one thing I don’t think we’ll tackle. I hope that’s not God! You’re not a prophet are you? But we do need to have Christians in Government. And you need to pray for our government and not complain about it, because nothing happens by complaining, we need to pray.
How did you and Dave meet?
Now there’s a story… Many of will know that I was abused as a child, so I didn’t think anybody wanted me, because I was ‘used merchandise’. So I married the first man who showed any interest, although I knew that it wouldn’t work. He ran around with other women and drank, so it ended up in divorce. I had a child towards the end of that five-year relationship and named him David, and then met Dave when my son was nine months old.
I was washing my mother’s car when he came by. Dave was a born again, spirit-filled Christian, and was believing God to show him his wife. He started flirting, and of course, I didn’t have much use for men, because I’d been abused. “When you get finished washing that car, would you like to wash mine?” he asked, and I turned around in my most sarcastic tone and said “Buddy, if you want your car washed, do it yourself!
Immediately, he thought… “that’s the girl for me!” So we had five dates and got married… I don’t recommend that, but I think God allowed this to happen before he found out what was wrong with me!”
How would you advise someone that has been abused who is considering marriage?
They should not make the person they marry pay for their past. People who have been abused often punish their spouse for the things somebody else did to them years before. They need to study the love of God and be healed before they get into a relationship.
People who have been abused don’t function right in relationships, because they don’t feel loved – they feel used, rejected, and abandoned. I had fears and inhibitions and I couldn’t stand anybody telling me what to do. So it’s wise for a person who has been abused to develop a solid foundation in Christ before they marry.
What is the single-most important thing that helped you in your early ministry?
Probably, just being a very determined person and refusing to give up. It is amazing how far you can get if you just won’t give up! I have a whole series of teachings called ‘Never Give Up’ No matter what you are going through, and you feel discouraged, my answer is don’t give up!
What difference do you think personal integrity has made in your ministry?
Everything! Honesty is one of the major things lacking in the world today. People tell you whatever you want to hear in order to get what they want. They lie, not realising they are opening up a door to the devil, who will take away more from them, than they think they will save through lying.
God instructed Dave and I to do three things when we started out in ministry… He said, “Keep strife out of your life, do everything with excellence and be a person of integrity and I will bless you”. That means we can’t be phoney… we can’t fight at home and come out and expect to have any power, there won’t be an anointing if there is no harmony. We have to practice what we preach. Personal integrity makes all the difference in the world.
