Sadly, Baby Cora Sobolik was declared brain dead and her parents Meagan and Paul decided to make her short life count, giving her a long-lasting legacy by touching many lives.

The 1-year-old baby girl was honored by her family and hospital staff as she took her final journey. They all sang ‘Amazing Grace’ as she traveled to the surgery room for the organ donation.

Coralyn “Cora” Eve Sobolik

Coralynn “Cora” Eve Sobolik passed away from parainfluenza complications that impeded her ablity to breathe. She was rushed to Cresco Medical in Iowa one Friday night after having a hard time breathing. Her parents, Meagan and Paul, didn’t know then that their lives would change from that moment onwards.

Cresco Medical decided that it was best for the toddler to be transferred to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. But as they were trying to stabilize Baby Cora for the transport, her heart stopped beating. They made every effort to revive her heart for 25 minutes. Their attempt was successful as they finally stabilized Cora enough to send her to Mayo.

The News

At Mayo, the results of a CAT Scan revealed that the sweet toddler had brain damage. It was the worst news for any parent could hear. The medical staff tried their best to revive her again. But in the middle of the night, Cora’s brain swelled and an emergency CAT scan revealed she was already brain dead.

Baby Cora was pronounced brain dead on Easter Sunday, April 21. There’s was no coming back for her. Meagan and Paul had to make the hardest decision to let their little angel go and save other people. They decided to donate Cora’s organs to people who desperately needed them.

Cora the superhero

Cora was able to save a 1-year-old boy with her heart and a 1-year-old girl with her liver. She was also able to save a 41-year-old lady with her kidneys.

“You get to save three people,” Meagan whispered to her tiny daughter during her final moments. “I love you forever.”

To honor the adorable angel, her family and hospital staff sang ‘Amazing Grace’ as she took her final journey. God’s grace is indeed amazing, even in the darkest times His grace abounds, bringing comfort but also extending grace to others in desperate need.

Cora’s story is inspiring  people everywhere. “Cora is our little superhero,” says her mother,  “and I believe is becoming an inspiration for millions of people and also helping to raise awareness for organ donation all over the world!”

As shared in the video, “I want to be remembered for the life I had as well as the life I give!”
