An elderly couple from Iowa is melting the hearts of thousands because of the husband’s sweet gesture to sing “Amazing Grace” for his wife with Alzheimer’s who is also quarantined due to coronavirus restrictions.
John Kline, the sweet husband of Ann, wrote on his Facebook post on March 19:
“Through a Pane–not a Pain. No visitors to John Knox Manor Nursing Home. Not my best singing–so you probably won’t want to listen. I cut it off at 45 seconds. I love my Sweet Ann and look forward to spending eternity with her. God bless you for even looking–and if you listened, well that was because you wanted to hear Ann.”
A Devoted Husband
Apparently, Ann has been suffering from Alzheimer’s for 17 years. And although that is the case, her husband John has always been by her side. According to InspireMore, when she moved into an assisted living facility, he visited her every day, multiple times a day.
Evidently, John’s Facebook profile page is full of status updates about his “sweetheart” through the years. He often shares photos with her on their adventures and always expresses his love for Ann. Moreover, he often declares his vow of “till death do us part” to her.
However, due to the rise of COVID-19 cases in the United States, John can no longer visit Ann like before. Because more restrictions were placed on visitors, regardless of family members, to protect the high-risk patients against the highly contagious disease. As a result, visitors are no longer allowed at all in John Knox Manor Nursing Home.
Ann Being Quarantined Cannot Stop John
The situation might have discouraged the devoted husband, but it didn’t stop him from showing his love. He showed up through the window of Ann’s room and sang his way to her. By pressing up himself against the glass, he sang “Amazing Grace” to encourage her through her fight.
Despite having Alzheimer’s, John says, “my precious, Ann, knows the hymns, she knows the Bible, she knows her John.” And so, during one of his recent visits through her window, the inspiring couple sang “Amazing Grace” together.
The beautiful moment was captured by one of the nursing home workers.
Even in the midst of the pandemic, nothing can stop this man from seeing his wife. Such a beautiful picture of hope despite adversity!
