The official Twitter account of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khameini was permanently banned earlier this week after posting a screenshot of an animated video of a drone strike on former US President Donald Trump at his Mar Lago golf course. However, the Ayatollah’s personal Twitter account remains active—despite urging Palestinians to attack Israel during last year’s Hamas war and his own repeated threats to wipe Israel off the face of the map.
And keep in mind—President Trump is banned for life from Twitter—through any account.
The Ayatollah’s message to Trump through the video was, “Revenge is definite.” Khameini threat is in reference to the drone strike President Trump ordered on January 3, 2020, that killed Iranian Quds Commander Qassem Soleimani.
The video is kind of a cross between an animated video game, a Tom Cruise movie, and the low-budget Japanese Godzilla flicks of long ago (the soundtrack that is…there are no giant lizards trying to wipe out Donald Trump). There’s a depiction of President Trump and former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (who is believed to be the main driving force behind Soleimani’s death) and others playing a round of golf at Mar Lago.
A menacing statement is typed across the screen and sent to Trump and Pompeo’s cell phones—”Soleimani’s murderer and the one who gave the order will pay the price.”
Earlier this month, the Iranian government called for President Trump and others to be tried for the murder of Soleimani. However, the animated video appears to signal that Iran may take matters into its own hands.
Iran President Ebrahim Raisi recently said, “If Trump and Pompeo are not tried in a fair court for the criminal act of assassinating General Soleimani, Muslims will take our martyr’s revenge.”
White House Security Advisor Jake Sullivan warned Tehran a few days before this video surfaced: “Make no mistake: the United States of America will protect and defend its citizens. This includes those serving the United States now and those who formerly served.” Sullivan did not specifically mention Trump or Pompeo.
The US and other world leaders are currently in negotiations with Iran to slow or stop their race to achieve a nuclear weapon.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently said, “We have, I think, a few weeks left to see if we can get back to mutual compliance. We’re very, very short on time because Iran is getting closer and closer to the point where they could produce on very, very short order enough fissile material for a nuclear weapon.”
