A visit to Israel changes your attitude toward the Jewish state, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio stated after a visit to the Kotel, the Western Wall, on Friday.
Di Maio is in Israel for meetings and the signing of agreements between the two countries. This is his first visit to the Jewish state.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi and Di Maio signed a protocol for cooperation in the cultural and scientific fields.

Israeli and Italian companies and entities signed six agreements in the hi-tech and innovation sectors.
“Italy and Israel reaffirmed their willingness to work together to build new business partnerships, taking advantage of the excellence of our scientific communities and the quality of our industries,” the Italian embassy in Israel stated.
Di Maio visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial and prayed at the Kotel, during which he stated that “many in Italy and in general have changed their attitude towards Israel after coming to visit the country or after their leaders’ visit to the country.”
He added that as he told Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi that “when a vaccine [for Coronavirus] arrives in Europe, we will also take care of our friends here in Israel.”
“We are good friends of Israel and we will continue to support and assist,” he added.
The Rabbi of the Western Wall and the Holy Places, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, who accompanied Di Maio, noted that “many European leaders have not come to prayer at the Western Wall in the past and in the last two years there has been a change and many leaders have come from Europe and I welcome that. It is a contribution to peace between peoples.”
