If you saw a penny on the ground would you bend over to pick it up? Once upon a time I wouldn’t have bothered. To me, it wasn’t worth the time or energy to bend over and pick up a little copper coin that was practically worthless.
But God changed my perspective one day. I was working for a major computer corporation at the time. Towards the end of every year, the Procurement Division would meet with all the vendors from around the world. For six straight weeks, they’d negotiate every single component for the new models, down to the tiny screws. These grueling meetings often went into the wee hours of the morning. Then they’d start all over again the next day.
The VP of Procurement shared with me something about those negotiations that I’ll never forget. He explained that when purchasing components for a computer, they negotiated down to the fraction of a penny. Did you get that? Not to the penny, but to the FRACTION of a penny? Why? Because millions of fractions of pennies add up to millions of dollars. Amazingly, whether or not a computer was profitable in the marketplace sometimes came down to just pennies!
Looking at our personal trials as well as the enormous problems facing our world, it’s easy to think that our prayers are like those pennies – they don’t seem to amount to much. The reality, however, is quite the opposite. Our prayers combined with the prayers of others are more than enough to get the job done. This is why it’s so important for each of us to be faithful to do our part. So be encouraged – and keep praying! Father God hears your prayers. And He answers!
