Pastors Dave and Cathy Powell did not expect they would almost lose their little girl on a fun summer day. Annie Powell drowned in the park swimming pool.
The Tragic Moment
The Powells were having a great time, enjoying their Saturday. Then suddenly, a commotion disrupted their pastime. A lifeguard was doing CPR on a little girl who reportedly drowned.
The couple approached to check, but to their horror, the lifeless body was their 9-year-old daughter. They could only hope and pray.
They rushed her to the nearest hospital, but Annie was still in critical condition. Dave recalled, “I was really concerned about her. And I think that’s when it really started to click, you know, that she’s not perfectly okay, even though she is breathing.” He continued, “And I was wondering what is going on there? And if she would ever be the same.”
Annie had to be transported to a level one trauma center quickly. So, they flew her in a chopper. But, the doctors claim that “the extended time without oxygen might have caused irreversible damage to her heart and brain if she survived.”
Still, Dave and Cathy trusted God. They called their friends and church mates to pray for Annie, to which they responded with grace. Most of them went to the hospital’s waiting room, declaring for Annie’s miracle.
They did not stop praying and even spent a special time for prayer in the following Sunday worship service.
And God heard them. The next day, Annie’s blood and oxygen levels improved.
Little girl meets Jesus
The following five days were miraculous. They saw excellent recovery as Annie was discharged from the hospital without any impairment.
Moreover, the little girl shared her unforgettable experience after the horrifying event. Although she did not remember anything after she drowned, one thing she did not forget was her time in heaven.
Actually, Annie momentarily died in the helicopter. But, she was resuscitated back to life.
She recalled, “I saw butterflies, and they were all different colors. They weren’t just regular, you know, everyday colors. They were colors you couldn’t even imagine. I felt very happy and joyful and very loved, and I just felt it all around me.”
She also remembered a man in white who helped her in the pool. “There was a man in white who was helping me in the pool, and I think maybe it was Jesus or maybe an angel.”
Today, Annie is alive and well. “When I pray to God and think of my miracle, I always say ‘Thank you, God, for letting me live,” she shared.
Cathy encouraged everyone to the truth that God is the God who can make the impossible possible.
