A Los Angeles Church, that had canceled all its public services amid COVID-19 threat, is focusing on feeding hungry families in the area.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many establishments to close, causing thousands of job layoffs. Schools and restaurants have also shut down to ensure the safety of the general public. As a result, many families find it hard to provide for their daily meals.
With the rising issue, individuals and organizations are stepping up to help those who are in need. One Church that is extending a helping hand is the Pentecostal megachurch Angelus Temple in Los Angeles, California.

The megachurch halted their public services not just to ensure the safety of the public, but also to focus on helping others. According to Pastor Matthew Barnett of Angelus Temple, they did so to respond to the needs.
“So we just put our emphasis on other areas,” Pastor Matthew said. “That’s going to be food scarcity as the shelves are going to be empty and families have been displaced,” Barnett said.
The Dream Center
Through the Church’s nonprofit organization in Echo Park, The Dream Center, they were able to provide hot and boxed meals for hungry families. They are open from 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM to welcome families from the Los Angeles Unified School District and anyone who stops by. They have drive-thru or pick-up services from Monday to Sunday.
The Dream Center is distributing an average of 5,000 meals a day. As well as 150 meals to the elderly they personally visit. It was made possible not just because of the church’s funds but also to the sponsors.
Los Angeles Dodgers Justin Turner and Clayton Kershaw have donated for the cause. Chick-Fil-A and Pink’s Hot Dogs have donated food as well.
