Recently, a newborn baby was reportedly trapped inside a storm water pipe in South Africa. Residents called emergency services after hearing cries coming from a drain. As soon as the rescuers arrived they discovered that the baby was indeed inside a concrete pipe. Then carefully, they started to dig her out.
“An intense rescue operation was started. We had to dig down, then once we reached the concrete drain, we had to chisel through it, being extra cautious with the little baby inside,” said Garrith Jamieson, Operations Director at Rescue Care.
“We had to use a hammer and a chisel to gain entry into the pipe. Then, rescuers managed to grip the little girl, who though crying was in good spirits,” he added.
Garrith was also asked whether he considered the incident as God’s divine intervention. He then revealed to South African news outlet eNCA:
“We commonly find babies being dumped, but I can honestly say this is my first time [finding a baby] in a stormwater drain. I do think it was a miracle. It was raining last night, this little baby was washed down from up on the roadway. To be found alive and well, crying and in good spirits, I really do think it’s a miracle.”
One eyewitness at the scene had tears on his face. He’s a dad of a 5-year-old and he felt compassion towards the abandoned little girl. “I was just like ‘Get this baby out!” he said.
And in the recent report from News24 Durban, it was said that the baby is already doing well.
“She has been awake, responsive and crying. Her glucose and sugar levels are good,” said Dr. Timothy Hardcastle.
Afterwards, he revealed the miracle, “I think any child who survives any amount of hours — and it sounds like it was at least four to five hours — in a stormwater pipe on days two or three after birth is a miracle. It is mercy from above that she is alive.”
“She is basically stable enough for transfer to one of the base hospitals where they can sort out the social side. But from a medical point of view, things are looking good.”
Being trapped inside the drainage system is no joke. On top of that, the baby was only about 3-days-old and all alone in that murky place for five hours!
Let me ask you, is that possible? Of course with God nothing is impossible. Indeed, God was with this little girl. It’s truth that she was abandoned, but God never left her side and protected her.
Let’s continue to pray for this brave little one as she continues to recover from this dreadful event.
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” (Psalm 18:2)
