A New Jersey plumber drove for 22 hours to help overwhelmed Texans with busted pipes due to the recent winter storms.

On the third week of February, two winter storms hit northern America with Texas being the state who suffered the most. Many Texans were left with no water supplies after water pipes exploded due to the extreme weather. Local supplies and plumbers are exhausted because of the demands.
After hearing about the situation, New Jersey plumber Andrew Mitchell stepped in to help the overwhelmed Texans in need. Together with his wife Kisha Pinnock, 2-year-old son Blake and his brother-in-law Isaiah, Andrew loaded up his truck with about $2,000 worth of materials. They then hit the road and started their 22-hour journey from Morristown to Houston.
“A lot of the people we’ve helped were telling us they either can’t get a plumber on the phone or—if they do get one on the phone—the wait to be serviced is three to four weeks out, so they can’t have water during that entire time,” Andrew’s sister-in-law, Kisha, told the BBC.

Andrew and his apprentice Isaiah started working long hours just to provide the crucial repairs people needed. Oftentimes, they work from 7:00 AM until 2:00 AM the following morning. On average, they were able to service 6 – 10 houses per day.
After their work is done, they usually charge their clients only what they could afford.
“I always ask a customer what do they think is fair, what do they have to spare,” Andrew told NJ.com. “I never try to take advantage of somebody.”
Andrew was not doing the repair service for money, he was doing it to help people in need with his passion.
“It’s really a blessing to be a blessing to other people and Andrew truly enjoys the work,” Kisha added. “Plumbing is his passion.”
