“No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” (Luke 16:13)
The lips of the double minded say one thing with their mouth but their heart is far from God. When you worship two masters, one of the masters will rule your thought life and the other you’ll despise – you cannot serve both.
When you surrender to God and allow Him to dwell in your heart, He will rule your thoughts. It is your choice, to serve the True and Living God or the idols of this world. Who has your heart? What has your heart – the idols of this world or Jesus Christ?

When you surrender your heart to Christ, you’re submitting your will to His Will. When you submit your flesh to Him you’re allowing your, carnal nature, lusts and affections to die, and allowing God to resurrect and infuse His desires, will and affections in you. When you die to yourself, and your selfish ways, you come alive and reflect the true nature of Christ. It’s your choice to either worship the things of this world or worship the True and Living God.
Your flesh is at war. “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.” (Romans 8:6-8)
Who Are You Holding On To?
“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” (Exodus 20:3)
Let “it” go. Whatever your “it” is will cause you to become entangled in “it’s” bondage. When your “it” becomes your idol, you’re setting yourself up for a downfall. Your “it”, may be your job, money, family or an addiction.
Whatever you’re choosing to hold on to that “it” consumes you and will take over your adoration and worship towards God. Your lusts and cares of this world will consume you and overtake you if you choose to allow them to have rule over you.
Jesus came and died for our sins. He died so that our lusts will not have rule over us. He died so that we might be free from the entanglement of sin. When you crave Christ you will be filled.
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” (Matthew 5:6).
Redirect Your Worship.
“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24)
When your heart is entangled, your worship becomes tainted. When your focus shifts on the idolization of the things of this world, your heart becomes trapped and cluttered by the weeds, thorns and cares of this world. When your worship is directed towards any person or thing other than God, that “thing” now becomes your ‘god’.
Your focus must shift back to God. It’s simple, if you’ve fallen away and your heart is cluttered with the things of life, simply pray this prayer:
Father God, in the Name of Jesus, I repent of my sins and I turn to You. Lord, I shift my focus back on You. Lord, I repent of worshipping other idol and I turn to You. Father, I repent of exalting any thing or person higher than you. Jesus Christ’s Blood covers me and I choose to serve You, honor You and Worship You forever. In Jesus Name. Amen.
“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
Turn back to Him.
If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, simply say these words: Lord Jesus, I recognize that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus Christ died and rose from the grave, just for me. I repent of my sins. I believe that Jesus Christ’s Blood washes me and cleanses me from all unrighteousness. In Christ, I am a new creature. I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. In Jesus Name, Amen.
