Brenda Crouch shares with us how she overcame the trauma of sexual abuse she experienced as a child by knowing her real identity in Christ.
In an episode of Supernatural Life hosted by Patricia King, TV host and author Brenda Crouch opens up about her journey into healing from trauma. At the age of 8, she experienced sexual abuse done by her own father. That moment made her change her perspective about her own identity.
Brenda carried the trauma of her experience until adulthood when she encountered men who also abused her. After coming out of two abusive marriages, she was in the darkest moment of her life. But in that darkness, God showed His glory by pulling her out from the deep.
“It was God’s grace reached into my abyss, into my pit, my taboo place, and He pulled me out of that wreckage,” Brenda shared. “And it was a process of Him teaching me how to abide in Him, what His grace was about, to let go of the performance and learn how to walk in His grace and His healing.”
God then brought healing to her by showing her the real identity she has in Christ.
“Little by little, He’s brought me to a place of understanding who I am in Christ alone,” she remembered. “I no longer need to be the perfect person, all those images had to go and to find my real authentic voice.”
After years, she finally dealt with the root of her trauma by forgiving her dad for what he had done. It was in that moment of forgiveness that she was finally freed from her bondage. She overcame evil by forgiving and seeing the goodness of God even in her own dad.
“We can get stuck being angry and bitter and that’s going to destroy us if that’s all we do. But the Scripture tells us to not be overcome by evil but to overcome evil with good. That is the fight, Patricia, that is the fight forward.”
