Richard Alfonso Martinez better known by his stage name, Oz Fox, suffered a massive seizure last week. The Christian rocker, who is the lead guitarist of the band Stryper, remains hopeful in God.
The band Stryper was formed 37 years ago. They were the first overtly Christian metal band that went mainstream.

On Monday, he updated his fans on his social media account with his current condition. “I want to thank you all of from the bottom of my heart,” he said. “At this time, I’m home on 1500 mgs. of keppra, an anti-seizure medication. [It] calms my brain down and keeps me subdued.”

Despite the disability the seizure caused Oz, he is still grateful for God’s grace. He said, “It’s hard to do anything physical right now. Even playing guitar is challenging. But I know God has me in His arms. I really could be a lot worse off so I’m thankful to have breath.”
The 59-year-old musician also asked for prayers for his wife who is taking care of him. “Please lift up my wife. She is carrying a lot now. I love her so much. I don’t know what I’d do without her.”
He added, “I really want all this resolved so I can get back to what God has called me to do. Thanks for all your love and support.”
Today, prayers are badly needed as Oz is scheduled for brain surgery next month. Doctors need to remove the two tumors in his head, one by his ear and the other on the back of his brain. If the tumor behind his ear would continue to grow, it may lose his ability to hear, see, balance and spinal problems. While the tumor in his brain may affect the upper left motor function and ability to recognize faces.
Oz’s wife, Annie Lobert, finds her strength with facing their upcoming battle in God. She said, “I love my husband Oz Fox who doesn’t mind when I change my hair to any color. We have some life changing decisions to take next month.”
She ended, “With God…he will overcome. Prayers appreciated.”
