Popular blogger Pastor Tim Challies announced the sudden death of his 20-year-old only son saying “our son is home.”

Pastor Tim Challies of the Grace Fellowship Church in Toronto, Canada, a popular blogger, announced the unexpected death of his 20-year-old only son on Tuesday, November 3. In his vlog, he shared that his son, Nick, is now home with the Lord that he loves.

“He’s with the Lord he loved, the Lord he longed to serve. We have no answers to the what or why questions,” the grieving Pastor Tim wrote.

20-year-old Nick

Nick was playing with his sister, fiancé, and other students at Boyce College in Louisville, Kentucky when tragedy struck. He suddenly collapsed and never regained consciousness despite efforts to resuscitate him.

Pastor Tim and his wife, Aileen, expressed their broken hearts on the blog. They plan to fly to Kentucky to be together as a family during this devastating time.

“Yesterday Aileen and I cried and cried until we could cry no more until there were no tears left to cry. Then, later in the evening, we looked at each other in the eye and said, ‘We can do this.’ We don’t want to do this, but we can do this — this sorrow, this grief, this devastation — because we know we don’t have to do it in our own strength. We can do it like Christians, like a son and daughter of the Father who knows what it is to lose a Son.”

“Our son is at home.”

A memorial service for Nick will be held near the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary campus in Louisville. After the mandatory quarantine period, a second memorial service will be held in Toronto.

“We ask that you remember us in your prayers as we mourn our loss together. We know there will be grueling days and sleepless nights ahead. But for now, even though our minds are bewildered and our hearts are broken, our hope is fixed and our faith is holding. Our son is at home.”
