We see a lot of viral images every day on the internet. But this viral image about a poor elderly woman reading the Bible without electricity is a picture Christians need to see.
In a Facebook post by Atty Jb Batiancila, she shared a photo of an elderly woman in the Philippines who was intently reading her Bible. Her house’s walls and roof look old and she had no electricity. It appears dark inside her humble home so the woman decided to step outside in order to read her beloved Bible.
For this devout Christian, Psalm 119:105 says it all: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
As followers of Jesus, the word of God is our guide, our defense, and our comfort. It means life for all believers. God speaks to us through His Word. It is written in Isaiah 40:8, “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”
Atty Jb also explained how the woman reminded her of her own grandmother. She described her as someone “who was poor in possessions, but rich in spirit.”
A Big Lesson To Every Believer: Read Your Bible
This poor elderly woman is teaching every believer a great lesson. Regardless if you are rich or poor, the Word of God must be our Daily Bread. Let us follow her example and be students of the Word of God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength.
We read the Bible not because God requires that of us, but because His words are LIFE.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)
