Celebrity couple Tim Tebow and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters are dealing with a heartbreaking family tragedy. The former NFL quarterback and his Ms Universe 2017 fiancée have shared their grief on social media.
Demi’s 13-year-old sister, Franje, who suffered from cerebellar agenesis passed away suddenly on Saturday (May 4, 2019). She was born without cerebellum in her brain and her ability to walk and to talk was affected.
Tim shared in an interview that Franje was actually responsible for bringing the couple together. “We actually met through one of our non-profits called A Night to Shine,” he told Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb last September.
A Night to Shine is an event for people with special needs to celebrate and fellowship with others. The Tim Tebow Foundation sponsors the worldwide event.
“Her sister has special needs, so we invited them to A Night to Shine in South Africa,” he continued. “We kind of met and started talking through that and haven’t stopped.”
The soon to be husband and wife couple both posted on Facebook their grief about the family’s loss.
Though her heart is aching, the model was relieved to know that her sister is now free from the pain she has experienced here on earth. “Love you always, my sister,” Demi wrote in their home language, Afrikaans. “One day we will be together again.”

My little Princess, Angel on Earth, biggest joy and baby sister, Franje, passed away earlier today. Our hearts are aching beyond measure but I am grateful knowing she’s forever relieved of the pain she experienced on earth. She’s laughing, running and playing in heaven just like we always hoped she would on earth . She’s free ! Thank you for all your prayers, love and support. ❤️ Lief jou vir altyd my Sussa en eendag sal ons weer bymekaar wees!
Tim also hopes to be reunited with Franje someday in the presence of our Heavenly Father.
Despite the heartbreaking news, the couple’s faith in the Lord has kept them going and brought comfort. They are confident in the Lord that Franje is now safe and joyful in the arms of her Almighty Father.
Let’s pray for the Nel-Peter family for comfort and strength in this time of grief.
