Several Christian groups have united themselves in prayer to lift their Christian brothers in China, Nigeria, and India amid persecution. The ongoing pandemic has only increased the persecution and thus calls for urgent prayers.

Evangelical Alliance, Release International, Christian Solidarity Worldwide, and Open Doors hosted the online prayer meeting. The event commemorates the 24th Internation Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. It is an annual occasion throughout November to pray for the persecuted churches worldwide.

China, Nigeria, India

From Release International, Andrew Boyd highlighted China, Nigeria, and India as the most number of persecutions in the year 2020. “They are huge countries, China the biggest in the world. India, the second-biggest. And Nigeria, the most populous nation in Africa. And in all of those three nations, persecution is happening in plain sight. It’s being permitted to continue. The authorities are not doing much to prevent it, and in some cases, they’re encouraging it.”

Particularly, in China, the authorities have demolished and destroyed even the state-controlled churches. Meanwhile, in India, Hindu extremist attacks on Christians are now a daily occurrence. And in Nigeria, militant attacks have slaughtered hundreds of Nigerian Christians and are continuing to do so.

Subsequently, the alarming rate of persecution in these countries has made them the highlight of the prayer event.

Boyd shared some of the prayer points that Christians can pray at their homes. “Let’s join with them in praying for the persecutors themselves, not for regime change, but for a revelation of who Christ is and a revelation that freedom actually matters. If it matters to God, it has to matter to us. There could be some Sauls out there who could become Pauls.”

“Let’s pray for the international community that instead of allowing this to happen in plain sight across the world, that they will say ‘enough is enough.’”
