Why don’t we pray more? If we really understood the powerful impact of prayer, shouldn’t that be a constant in our lives, as much, or even more so than, eating or drinking? Prayer is absolutely indispensable in today’s society. The media is overly inundated with stories of unending homicides, innumerable theft, widespread diseases and all other categories of sin and destruction. More than ever before, we need to pray, and I mean pray for the Bible tells us that “the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous man availeth much.” (James 5:16).
Prayer changes things! If we want to see change in our world, in our lives and in the lives of our loved ones, we have to incorporate prayer daily in our lives. Prayer is the “open pathway” to the Father and a tremendous “stress reliever.” No where can you go and truly expose yourself intimately without judgment but with God. It’s not like you are telling Him something that He doesn’t already know because God knows everything about you!
I am thankful for a wonderful connection with my Heavenly Father through prayer. There have been countless times in my life whereas, I felt that in the various struggles of life that no one really understood my pain but it has always been so refreshing and therapeutic to come humbly in the presence of God and to cast my cares before Him (I Peter 5:7). God has never left my side (Hebrews 13:5) and have remained true to His word!
Prayer is another way to seek the Lord for wisdom and direction in life. Many people feel that they are the orchestrator of everything that transpires in their lives and thus don’t seek the Lord for help and as a result, they make many costly and undoable mistakes. We need the awesome and competent hands of the creator to lead us and help us to make Godly and wise decisions in our lives. For the Word of God tells us empathically “that men always ought to pray and not loose heart.” (Luke 18:1).
Furthermore, prayer is an effective tool to utilize against Satan. Satan knows the powerful effects of prayer. That is why he creates multiple distractions to try and hinder our prayer life. But the Bible states clearly that “we should give ourselves to prayer.” (Psalm 109:4). Prayer encourages us and empowers us in our faith walk. Once we pray, believe and begin to speak in faith to our situations, God strengthens us in the process and enables us to stand firm trusting him fully to bring us through victorious!
So, I implore you, “by the mercies of God” and as a faithful servant of the Lord to pray. Pray when you feel like it and pray when you don’t! God is waiting to hear from you. It doesn’t matter whether you are a believer or not, God desires to hear from you. Make up in your mind that no matter what you have in life, no matter how you feel and no matter the devil’s schemes that he utilizes to hinder you, that you are going to prevail or press through in prayer because whatever you need whether it is peace, joy, love or happiness, it is all found through God and in communication with Him!
