You are a diamond yet uncut. A jewel in the rough. Some facets still unshaped by the Master’s hand, smeared with the dirt of the hole you were mined from.
But the work is underway.
“Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6)
Papa’s design is not that you lay hidden until some pinnacle of perfection is reached before He displays you as His delight, but that in all your imperfections He shines His light to a dying world starved of the the raw beauty of holiness.
But what of my anger you protest? It will be shaved.
What of my unruly mouth and wayward emotions? The cutting tools of grace will see them honed into testimonies that carry not only majesty but mercy for others who are struggling as you do now.
Moses was a man not a god, yet his face shone with the glory of Heaven so much so that a veil was placed to protect the people from the brightness.
Elijah was subject to like passions as you and I, yet used to slay armies and turn a nation back to God.
Esther, despite her beauty, was fearful that the king would reject her advances, yet was received by the true King with open embrace.
All drew close in prayer and fasting to the heavenly Source.
Close to the Fire
There is a light within you that is awakened and amplified by proximity. Your shining is not the reflection of your magnificence, it is the outshining of His perfections through you.
Speaking with the Lord one day I prayed that His light would be reflected through me when I spoke at a particular meeting. He corrected me and said, “project, not reflect because I live in you!”
The blazing light of Jesus Christ, the outshining of the Godhead dwells within you and all of creation awaits your unveiling.
“For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are. Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.” (Romans 8:19–22)
Power Enough To Illuminate a City
We sing of “this little light”, but the light that dwells within you is no little light at all. He is the Light of the World, the sun of righteousness arising with healing in His fiery wings.
“But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings.” (Malachi 4:2)
The power of Christ within your born-again spirit is enough to set a city ablaze, enough to illuminate a mountain range.
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” (Matthew 5:14)
Paul records his earnest prayer in Ephesians chapter 1:
“I pray that you will continually experience the immeasurable greatness of God’s power made available to you through faith. Then your lives will be an advertisement of this immense power as it works through you.” (Ephesians 1:19 PASSION)
The power plant burning in your belly is nothing less than,
“…the mighty power that was released when God raised Christ from the dead and exalted Him to the place of highest honor and supreme authority in the heavenly realm!” (Ephesians 1:20)
Drawing Close to God
God is at work to perfect you, yes, but it is never your perfections that impress. The glory we carry is transported in earthen vessels and is all the more amazing for it. Divinity through humanity is a mystery that began in Christ and continues through His body.
But here, friend, is the point.
If your perfections are not enough to illuminate the world. If your Excellencies are inadequate to dispel the darkness, try proximity instead.
Draw close to God and allow the Master to shape you with the laser of His Word.
Let prayer infuse your very being with Papa’s presence and the perfections of the Son until His light rises within you and breaks forth like the morning.
Pray, dear friends, pray.
