If you try to ask random people what love is, they tend to have different answers. They view love according to what they have experienced or maybe on what they’ve seen in movies. But to us Christians, love is more than that because God is love and we are called to love differently.
Contrary to popular opinion, women shouldn’t settle for ideas on love based on what is viral and popular on social media. Because not every viral post speaks the truth. Some are just personal opinions and half-truths, taking God out of the picture. And sometimes, it unknowingly leads to a selfish perspective that teaches us to think only of ourselves and no longer God’s sacrificial kind of love. It’s a love close to the truth but not really the truth. Hence, any love where God is not in the picture is a dangerous kind of love.
Called To Love Differently
As daughters of God, we are called to love differently. 1 John 4:7-9 reads, “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him.”
The perfect picture of love will always be Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. Hence, love in its truest sense is Jesus—His unconditional love, His sacrifice so we might live.
Therefore, love apart from Christ is not really love because God is love. And in this world where love is viewed differently, we are called to be like Christ. We are called to display that love the world is thirsting for and show them who Jesus is. In such a way, people would know that we belong to God, and they would know Him too.
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” -John 13:35
