There are moments in our lives where we mistakenly forget the power of God within us. During those painful moments, we keep on listening to the words and lies that are not coming from the voice of our One True God. This is why it is so important to remind yourself about your true identity in the presence of God.
Yes, there may be a lot of frustrations and disappointments that might happen in your life, but that doesn’t mean that you are the same person you used to be. God has already transformed you through His love. His grace healed you and made you whole again. And because of that, you are not an ordinary person.
In an article written by staff writer Marshall Segal, of Desiring God, he shares the three things that you need to know about your true identity: You are not who you were, you are not what you feel and you are not where you fall.
Your past no longer defines you because you are now a child of God.
Satan may try to remind you of the mistakes that you commit, but always remember that Jesus has already redeemed you with His precious blood.
So do not rely on your emotions – especially in your suffering, “Rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when His glory is revealed.” (1 Peter 4:13)
Do not base your identity on your sins. You are already forgiven by God. Start living a life that is free from the shame of sin. God wants you to experience freedom from everything that imprisons you.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Most importantly, never forget that you are a child of God. You are so precious in His eyes and He will always be there to guide you. Never underestimate yourself. God created you special and unique. You are treasured. You are chosen, You are loved. Remember that!
