A school bus driver went out of her way to help an 80-year-old grandmother when she saw her walking on the streets to get food for her grandchildren.
Joyce Brown has been serving students in Richmond, VA as a bus driver for 20 years. But after the pandemic broke out, instead of transporting students, she became a food delivery driver. According to Faithpot, “She has been delivering meals to schools around the city as part of the meal distribution effort.”
A Grandmother Walking To Get Food
One day, while doing her job, she noticed an elderly lady walking to get her grandchildren’s meals from the school. That’s when she took action and went out of her way to help the sweet grandmother. Joyce offered her a ride. And since then, she took the role of delivering the school’s breakfast and lunch for her grandchildren every day.
“I’m 80 years of age,” said Evelyn Bullock. “That’s quite a walk from Carver Elementary School back down here.” For the elderly, walking up for 30 minutes is not an easy task. “I am a two-time cancer survivor. I also have arthritis and I fall a lot,” she said.
So, to save her from the 30-minute walk, Joyce took her place.
Making A Difference
“It’s just part of what I do,” Joyce said. “She thanks me so much and tries to offer me gifts, but I don’t want gifts,” she added. Because for her, the true reward is when what she does makes a difference in someone else’s life.
Further, Joyce said, “She told me one day that when I get to heaven, the crown that God has for me will be too big for my head. I understand what she means now… she really appreciates what I do for her.”
Meanwhile, the 80-year-old said, “I never expected it. It’s like God just poured it out. She’s just a blessing to me and I think she is just an awesome person.”
It’s beautiful how Joyce demonstrated the love of God to the grandmother. Praise God for her act of kindness!
