A woman who was sexually assaulted by seven men in a robbery in their home at 15 years old shares her story of forgiveness that touched millions.
Loving Christian Home
Joy Mendoza grew up in a loving Christian home. Her dad is a pastor, and they were raised with great Christian values. Thus, at a very young age, her faith was greatly instilled, and she grew up in a happy home. They would consistently do Bible studies as a family and pray for protection every night. But when she was 15 years old, a tragic incident happened that destroyed her world.
One night, Joy’s mom and dad were out for a Bible study. She and some of her siblings were the only ones left home when ten armed robbers entered their home at around six in the evening. That night, Joy was about to take a shower in her parents’ bedroom when she felt something was wrong.
“I think the Holy Spirit already put it a sense in my heart, so I prayed,” she recalled.
Robbers Assaulted Her
Then she looked down the hallway, and a man ran towards her. Joy ran away and locked herself up in the bathroom. However, the armed man came and started banging on the door. The robber asked the whereabouts of their money and jewelry. Left with no choice, the 15-year-old took the robbers to their valuables.
Joy thought the man would kill her because he had a gun. Instead, however, the man started to assault her sexually. At that time, she had never had a boyfriend, never been kissed, and was a virgin. She felt helpless and just cried. From that point on, the man passed her to another robber. Then came another man, who did the same thing to her until these seven robbers all assaulted her one by one.
It felt surreal for Joy, for she couldn’t believe what was happening to her. But amidst that tragic experience, she kept reciting in her mind Psalm 23.
Watch how God turned that dreadful event into a beautiful testimony of His goodness and love. Prepare your tissues!
