Our sins can wound our souls and can cause physical illness or disabilities.
Sin can wound the soul
Katie Souza shares an eye-opening message about what can sin do to our soul and physical body. She referenced John 5 where the Lord healed a man with infirmities for 38 years. That man was physically disabled because of the sins he has committed. “Infirmity” in Greek means infirmities in both body and soul.
“That man was in that state because its soul is wounded by sin and it caused his physical body to follow suit. So, sin can wound the soul,” Katie explained.

When Jesus healed that man, He said unto him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.” That gives us the clue that the root cause of that man’s infirmities is his sins.
Katie then referenced James 5:16 to emphasize that point. But no matter how deep our sin is, there is still forgiveness and healing for our soul and body.
“This Scripture directly connects the fact that sometimes, sin causes sickness. That’s why it says, if you’re sick, go to the elders, the prayer of faith will heal you of that sickness and you will get forgiven of the sin you committed too that could have caused the sickness when the prayer of faith is released for you.”
There’s healing if we confess to our sin and repent from it.
“If you confess your offenses and get prayer for those offenses, then you can be healed it says.”
