Sir Tom Jones shared an encounter with God in a recent podcast with comedian Alan Carr. He shares the story of how God saved him when he was swimming on the shores of Mexico.

Alan Carr hosted the legendary singer on his Life’s A Beach podcast last Monday. The 80-years-old multi-awarded winning artist did not hold back from sharing his faith and experiences with God.
The memorable event happened in the ’60s, according to Jones. He and his family were enjoying dinner on a trip to Acapulco when he decided to go for a swim in the ocean…alone.
Jones jokingly called himself an airhead as he didn’t think through the situation at the time. He left the group and dove into the water.
He said, “Me, schmuck, thought just over this dune is the ocean… so I wandered off like a fool, and I look at the calm water and think it looks lovely out there.”
“I go through the breakers and start swimming out. Then, somebody comes looking for me, standing on the beach and I look at them and the fellas about this big.”
He tried going back to shore, but he later realized that he hadn’t moved even an inch.
Came to my rescue
Jones was getting tired with every second that went by. He held on to his large cross necklace and asked God for help. For some reason, Jones’s was still wearing the necklace when he would usually take it off to go for a swim.
The Christian singer recalled, “I put my hand on it and said, ‘God, I’m desperate here. What do I do?’ I was going to give up. I thought I’d take a load of water in and say good night.”
“A voice came to me and said, ‘If you think you can swim, now is the time to prove it.’ So I start to head towards the beach, head down I go like the clappers. I’m caught in the breaker, and I’m looking for the light to find what way is up because I’m spun.”
The waves then tossed Jones on the beach.
Alan questioned Jones if the voice was indeed from God and not from a lifeguard with a megaphone. But, the Voice UK coach was very sure.
“Definitely, on my life,” he said. “Then I talked to real swimmers who said the undertow was taking you out to sea, you have to go left or right, or you’ll never make it. There’s no way. You must have had some divine thing. It was not your time to go.”
